Living in the bush

The villa is located on the stunning and exclusive Zandspruit Bush and Aero Estate, a private 1,000-hectare reserve. The estate is home to a wide variety of African wildlife that roams freely. It's not uncommon to have an unexpected visitor while you're lounging by the pool!

The estate is secured and fenced and is home to animals such as giraffes, zebras, impalas, and monkeys (no big 5). You also won't have to worry about neighbors, as Villa Tall Horse is situated on a 1.5-hectare plot (larger than a football field!), offering all the space and privacy you could wish for.

Wilderness area

About 650 hectares of the estate remain exclusive to the wildlife. In this wilderness area, you can enjoy walking, cycling, or make a game drive with your own car. Our tip: animals frequently come to drink at the dam, making it the perfect spot to observe wildlife and birds while enjoying a beautiful sunset.

The estate has its own professional riding school. You can take horse riding lessons here. Even without experience, you can book a safari tour on horseback for 1, 2 or 3 hours in the Wilderness Area of ​​the Estate under professional guidance. This is also possible with young children.

Villa Tall Horse is, of course, equipped with a fully functional kitchen. But since it's a vacation, you might not feel like cooking! Luckily, there are several restaurants in Hoedspruit. Our favorites are Hat and Creek, Sleepers, and The Thirsty Giraffe.

Just a few minutes from the villa, you'll also find a good restaurant in the Radisson Hotel or you can go to the cozy Maroela Bar, known for its delicious pizzas. On Zandspruit Boulevard, you'll find places like Aragula Farm House, where you can enjoy a tasty lunch in the beautiful garden.

Shops

Hoedspruit is a small town, but you can find almost everything you need here. There are three large supermarkets, including Spar and Pick n Pay. In addition, there are souvenir shops, art galleries, cozy cafes, and much more.

For practical matters, you’re well-covered here as well: there’s a gas station, a pharmacy, a garage, and a shop for IT repairs. In 2024, the private hospital opened, which is a reassuring thought, as medical help is now always nearby.

Greater Kruger

Hoedspruit is surrounded by the Greater Kruger, a group of private reserves that have an open connection with the Kruger Park. Here you can go on a game drive in an open jeep under the guidance of a professional guide and get acquainted with the special and overwhelming animal kingdom of South Africa. If you are a real adventurer, you can even go on a bushwalk with a guide. All of this is only ten minutes away from Villa Tall Horse!

Self-drive day trips

Kruger Park

Kruger National Park is also perfect for self-drive safaris. From Hoedspruit, you can drive along the Greater Kruger area to the Orpen Gate, just 40 minutes from the villa. From there, you can embark on beautiful day trips, enjoying the park at your own pace and immersing yourself in its stunning wildlife and landscapes.

Blyde river canyon

If you drive in the opposite direction, you'll enter an entirely different world. From the sundeck of Villa Tall Horse, you can already see them: the small Drakensberg mountains, with Mariepskop (1944 meters) as the highest peak. Nestled between the mountains is the Blyde River Canyon, the largest living green canyon in the world.

The canyon is one of South Africa's major attractions and is part of the Panorama Route. Spanning 180 kilometers, you'll encounter waterfalls and breathtaking viewpoints along the way.

Magoebaskloof

Magoebaskloof is a stunning area located to the north of Villa Tall Horse, known for its lush landscapes, misty forests, and scenic mountain views

For adrenaline junkies, Magoebaskloof offers exciting activities such as ziplining, abseiling, and tubing along the cliffs of the gorge. Along the way, you can sample local products like the region’s famous fruit and cheese, available at roadside stalls. Don't miss a visit to the local Zwakala Brewery, where you can taste craft beer brewed in the heart of this beautiful area.
