How Villa Tall Horse came about
“Building a house in South Africa? We received many questioning looks when we shared our plans with family and friends. But we had full confidence in the project developer and at the end of June 2021 we signed the purchase contract for 1 hectare of land where our villa would be built. Yes, we thought nine months was a bit unrealistic ourselves. But, if it would be finished in a year, wouldn't that still be very nice?

After that, it went very fast. In the month of July, we examined the first drawings of the architect. A few adjustments here and there, some more wooden deck there..... The villa was already starting to take shape on paper. Then the idea for a second master bedroom was born. All our comments and wishes were quickly and professionally adjusted and then the master plan was finished.
Construction began on August 1. We were not present ourselves, but through photos we were kept well informed of all progress over the next three months.
In November, we went to take a look ourselves. We were impressed by all progress made. Those nine months suddenly seems realistic after all! That meant that we had to hurry up and think about the furnishing. There was a lot to consider: not only choosing a kitchen and curtains, but every small detail as well. What color light buttons, what kind of handles, etc.
So many things to think about. Fortunately, we have about the same taste, so we were able to make quickly decide. We also agreed on the name for the villa. We got the inspiration for the name Villa Tall Horse on an earlier trip to Zambia. The story goes that the first Europeans could not come up with a good name when they first saw a giraffe and did not get further than "tall horse". We thought that was very funny name for one of our favourite animals and it also sounds a bit fancier than the South African “Kameelperd”.
Completely according to plan, we received the keys at the beginning of April 2022. Everything finished to perfection! What a great performance from the Lowveld Development group. All compliments to Gerrit-Jan and Yvonne who have guided us through the entire process very skillfully and professionally. We look back on a great adventure and can now really enjoy our villa!
